Essentially a tale of love between a boy and his grandfather, growing up sex and secrets, dog meat and poo. The scatological nature of this novel may turn a few hypersensitive stomachs, however get beyond that and you're into the read of your life. The novel kickstarts as Thomas enters into puberty in a home constricted by a cheating father and a vengeful mother. The crude nature of the characters and the perfect prose from the author of Withnail and I, coupled with scintillating humour make for a compulsive read. Grandfathers with porn mag stashes and beckoning secrets will lead to page turning till the bitter end.
A fantastic read but not one for Grandma's Christmas stocking.
