Ominous clanking sounds, allusive text that skitters across the screen – and the very familiar image of a macramé stick man – welcome back Burksville!
Only this time in the snug, cosy nest of your home, and if you happen to get a teeny bit nauseous– there’s always the pause button. Naughty as it is, many denizens of this spectral isle have seen the movie in this environment already, either on disk or VHS, and that didn’t stop them vigorously vouching for Blair Witch’s supremely spooked shenanigans.
So we watched the movie (it seemed to be about these backpackers arguing constantly
), what more could this enticing multimedia cocktail offer? None other than that engaging DVD stalwart – the director walk-through. This is what I truly wanted to hear – these guys are great nerds, I warmed to their witterings quickly. By the time the credits rolled the trio had lapsed in to old granny syndrome and were mindlessly sounding the words on screen – excellent stuff. However, there is some pretty insightful stuff here, the most I’ve been able to piece together the actual construction of the film with.
We also get The Curse of the Blair witch TV spin-off. Pretty fun overall with the package, but still a bit like watching a dull sci fi channel documentary (they should have got Corbin Bernstein to present it). The only thing off about the extra titbits was the ‘new discovered’ footage. These were scenes deleted from the movie – for good reason. This apart, all solid stuff.
The Blair witch Project has always presented itself over a range of media and is at home with the slice an’ dice nature of DVD as it is on the Web, the big screen, or the soon to be exclusive underwear range.
