The mighty Capcom, makers of the famous Streetfighter series of beat 'em ups and the Resident Evil creep 'em ups now ventures into the world of Jurassic Park style survival with their latest genre, the eat 'em up, and the stonking Dino Crisis. The similarities with Resident Evils' game engine and plot scenarios are there; you get to explore a mysterious deserted research lab, the previous inhabitants of which have presumably become raptor-fodder. You begin lost, barely armed and desperately hope to obtain answers, and a bigger gun, in your attempts to escape the slavering jaws of some extinct beastie. The main difference in gameplay is in that the scenery is animated and moves with you as opposed to appearing as a static background. The camera POV's are fixed but this time they pan and track your progress. One of the trickier aspects of having to deal with bad guys, evident in Resident Evil, seems even more apparent with Dino Crisis. When face to face with a Dino, there will be occasions due to these camera angles, where you will not be able to see your foe, a tactical disadvantage in anyone's book. Despite this, and a somewhat fiddly inventory system, Shinji Mikami and his creative team at Capcom have come up with an immersive and genuinely exciting cinematic adventure game. A top title.
