It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet show tonight. It’s time to put on make-up, it’s time to dress up right, it’s time to raise the curtain on the Muppet show tonight. And thus millions of Kermit and Miss Piggy fans tuned in to Jim Henson’s fuzzy foam jamboree each week. The cast of crazy characters and animals were famous for a number of things: A-grade guest stars, songs, sketches and humour, but never kart racing. Until now that is. The latest contender for the Mario Kart-a-like trials, Muppet Race Mania, has all the makings of a great racing title, and the Muppet factor can only be a plus in my opinion. Pretty much every character you have heard of (and a few you may not have) get to thrash their dinky sets of wheels around some colourful and inventive courses, most of which are based on sets from the Muppet movies. With tracks and vehicles and power-ups of this kind, the format is hardly original, but what makes this game special is the combination of great graphics (easily on a par with those of Crash Team Racing) and great music and sound effects. The original fat jazzy sound of the show’s music is replicated well, as are the voices of the characters. Even if your not a Muppet fan, this is a groovy game, and if you are wellÂ….And now let’s get things started (why don’t you get things started). It’s time to get things started on the most sensational inspirational celebrational Muppetational this is what we call Muppet Race Mania.
