For what was rapidly becoming The Phantom Game, the much anticipated Star Wars Episode 1 title for Playstation and PC is actually worth the wait, thank the Force. The action follows the events of the movie pretty closely, and is basically a third person blaster with adventurous leanings. Think Tomb Raider with a bit more dialogue. However unlike the Eidos classic, developers Big Ape have adopted a slightly quirky, not quite top-down fixed camera P.O.V. Consequently, it can be frustrating not knowing what lies more than a few metres ahead, but it works well when running around the suspended walkways of the Trade Federation ships hangars, for example. The graphics are great, apart from one or two minor polygon glitches, and the locations are as well designed and varied as, well, the ones in the movie. It's the meticulous attention to detail which helps make this a winner, particularly for the legions of dedicated fans of Mr. Lucas' epic tale. Lightsabres hum, maintenance droids mill about, all while John Williams' original score swirls and soars around you. I can recommend this juicy chunk of Star Wars pie to existing fans, but the fact that you can actually kill Jar Jar Binks should appeal to just about anybody.
