It's difficult to mention Lara Croft in any kind of context nowadays without sounding like a spotty, game-addicted schoolboy or a somewhat tragic twenty-something who still hasn't learnt how to socialise properly. Well, er...anyway, the polygonal Playstation princess with a plum in her mouth is back in her fourth, and probably most refined adventure yet. Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation is everything one would expect, and a little more, from a series of titles that has seriously helped Sony's Playstation become the console of choice for millions of gamers.
The hi-res graphics are well defined and very smooth (although the camera motion can be a little twitchy), the music is excellent, and the nimble Ms. Croft has even more manoeuvres to get to grips with, including the ability to climb ropes! Hurrah! It also appears that Lara has been rooting around in (Metal Gear) Solid Snake's impressive sack, making off with his binoculars and gun-mounted laser sight, thus adding another inventive dimension to the already engrossing gameplay.
Tomb Raider may steal elements from Hollywood; the Indiana Jones movies, The Mummy, even Young Sherlock Holmes, but the sheer amount of work that has gone into Core Design's latest archeological outing will only serve to deepen their own special niche in the video games market.
