The last show of thier short tour to promote their latest excellent album "All Hands On The Bad One" demonstrate Sleater-Kinney on top form yet again and getting better. The all-girl trio (two guitars, one dummer, no bass-the same as Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) draw heavily from the new album along with more familiar tracks from "The Hot Rock" and "Dig Me Out." Opener "The Ballad Of A Ladyman," which attacks sexism in the music business, sets the blistering tone for tonight. "The Professional," "Milkshake N' Honey" and recent single "Your No Rock N Roll Fun" rumble along with an incredibly tight sound that makes the current Jock Rock Bands look truely poor in comparison.
"The End Of You" and "One More Hour" have drummer Janet Weiss going at full throttle proving she is one of the best in her field in the live scene and adds to their already powerful sound. Finishing the main set with "The Swimmer," one of the uncharacteristically slow ones from the new album, proves they are not just a one-trick-pony. After an unusal request to "stay for a shag" they return for three more and finish with "Get Up" and a frantically extended version of "Dig Me Out" that gets everyone jumping. Finished in just over a compact hour, we look forward to their return soon. An all round class act.
