I like going out on the razz, it’s fun. And I like going to discos, because that’s funner. Unfortunately, talking to people at discos is a little hard, what with all the boomin’ bass. Now, I know of one particular disco where not only can you hear everything fine, but the drinks are free, and so is the admission. And you never get turned away on the door. And its’ run by Fins. Not like a giant whale driving a dynamo linked to the sound system. But two guys from Finland. That’s pretty cool eh ?. The only drawback is that should you get lucky with anyone then you’ll find it less than easy to get to the next base with them anytime soon. Because you can’t snog someone who is made up of pixels. Unless you are Tron. And you’re not, alright.
‘Mobiles Disco’ is a chat site where you’re represented both in text and graphic form. This is nothing ground breaking conceptually – this sort of thing has been done before many times, but rarely has it been this fun. For starters, it’s a Disco scenario, so it’s mercifully light on the elves and orcs stuff. And you can apply a nice level of customisation to your avatar (that’s your guy/girl onscreen), from picking the right haircut to choosing a suitably comfy looking sweater. Previous chat sites only gave you a single face or body graphic. The site is divided into two rooms, an bar with tables, chairs and booze, and the discotheque itself, with it’s spotlights, main stage and dancefloor. The first thing you’ll notice is that most of the ravers and drinkers are speaking in code. Hold it, that ain’t code, that be Finnish !. You silly thing silly thing, you’re in the wrong part of the site – there are two discos running all the time, and the one of them is predominantly full ‘o’ Fins. What’s nice here, is the opportunity to pick up a new language, and drink virtual pints at the same time. Failing that you can always chicken out and run off to the other more English orientated area.
For a week or two, this was the most fun I was having on the net. It’s easy to sign into, and the actual chat interface is a piece of piss to work with. And because of the scenario, the nature of the chat is relatively non-boring. What with all the dancing and boozing and shouting into the mike there’s more on the mind of the punters than ‘who likes what bands’, and ‘who likes wearing high heels in bed’. Hopefully in the near future they’ll program in a few more dance styles to bump n’ grind with, and maybe a new collection of night wear, but till then this is the best night out in townÂ….in Finland.
