After the wink-wink smugness of Sream 2 it comes as a pleasent surprise that this third instalment is a return to form for the Scream Team. The plot again centres around the film within a film scenario with various actors playing other actors in the previous films. Sidney (Neve Campbell), Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courtney Cox) are joined by Jenny McCarthy as Sarah Darling playing Candy and a frantic Parker Posey as Jennifer Jolie playing Gale with a little too much conviction. Add to this Patrick Dempsey in his first decent role since... ever, as the Detective sent to investigate yet more connected murders.
Sidney is now living in a remote house away from the city but is drawn to Hollywood after mysterious phone calls and murders on the set of Stab 3. Dewey is now going out with actress Jennifer Jolie much to Gails' disdain, especially when she tries to act like Gale to make her part more believable. It is the excellent new characters, along with some great set pieces and unexpected cameos that help the film excel over recent spate of crappy horror films. Yet again there are a number of (bloody) red herrings that will get you guessing right to the end but unlike Scream 2, you'll have much more fun and even a few frights on the way.
