This year has been a good year so far music wise, and it is improving. As soon as I heard 'The time is now' on MTV, I must admit I was tempted to use Napster for a criminal act, but I also started to wait impatiently for the album to be released. Now it has hit the stores and to redeem my sins I bought it immediately.
The single surprised me by being very distinguished from most music reaching the radio these days, not least when compared to the quite boring previous hit 'Sing it back'. What is really pleasing with the album is that the first single isn't unique. There's more where that stuff came from. The album is full of groovy synthetic sounds, but it is also an excellent example of good sound engineering with all the analogue instruments.
Many songs have a wild creativity to them that somehow reminds me of Beck, even though the harmonics and structure is quite far from his. The lyrics spans from sad melancholy to refreshing nonsense, generally the rhymes are very catchy and intelligent. Taste this for example; "Mother dear it should be you. That's sitting here. On this couch. Ouch."
It feels a bit uneasy that I can't find anything negative to say about this album. Even the artwork in the cover and sleeve has an interesting point regarding the album's name. I know it will last long in my CD-player, even the fact that I don't instantly like all the tracks is a good sign.
