The world's most shocking moments - caught on tape 3
TV, Justin Harries, 20 January 1999 Rating: F1

Roll up, Roll up – See a man torn in half, see brave fire-fighters lives extinguished, watch in glee as a journalist is pounded by heavy artillery – all from the comfort of your own home!
Thank you Sky, thank you for reminding me what a shitty animal humanity really is. Once again Sky presents us with an ‘insightful’ one-hour special, no doubt culled from Murdocs US channel Fox. Other Fox specials that have made it over here range from the classic ‘When Animals Attack’ to ‘When Good Times Go Bad’. All very classy stuff.
TWMSMCOT 3 ups the ante by being about anything where you see humans being maimed, mauled and generally mutilated. And that’s about it. No context but "See how that guy burnt up – cool!" Just mining mans degenerate desire for armchair exploitation – only this time it really happened.
Hold on – whats wrong with this desire? The only real reason I went to airshows, race tracks et all was to see some kind of collision, some act of destruction, as if I could glean some revelationary experience from such an event. Is showing such scenes on TV simply crass, or does it create a vital cathartic reminder that death maybe only around the corner? Like Jerry Springer before, these shows cut the crap.
To be certain, Murdoch will be dining out on human misery for a long time to come. As the cheesy, Troy Mclure type host says – "One thing we can be sure of – these startling events will certainly continue to take place and cameras will be there to capture those frightening moments and when they do we’ll be sure to bring them to you on The Worlds most Shocking Moments Caught On Tape!"
