No. 1: The Pot Noodle
Talk, , 14 January 1999
I can still remember where I was sitting when I experienced my first Pot Noodle - and an experience it was. This wasn't mere sustenance. Oh no, I was consuming the future of food products! I was twelve years old, and it had taken a good deal of whining as I followed my mother around the supermarket aisle before she caved and agreed to buy me a Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle. She didn't really approved - there were rumours that they gave you cancer, and besides, anything dehydrated can't be good for you. But I knew different. If it was good enough for NASA astronauts (I actually believed astronauts ate Pot Noodles in space!) then it was good enough for me. Years later, I feel even more vindicated. It's funny how when anything innovative, forward thinking and indispensible is introduced, people always claim it will give you cancer - Microwave Ovens and Mobile Phones are other good examples.
Since the early eighties, Pot Noodles have been a favourite in British Supermarkets. There have been many imitators over the years, and many pretenders to the throne of supreme slob-food, but nothing has ever come close to displacing the inimitable Pot Noodle.
Whilst Chicken & Mushroom will always be favoured amongst Pot Noodle purists, Golden Wonder have devised a vast array of tempting alternatives - of which Pot Mash, the most recent, is also arguable the most daring.
Quick to prepare, these Pots need only a small amount of water and a little care and attention. In minutes you have a mouthwateringly gloopy snack that will keep your stomach churning for many hours to come. Top Home
