| Mel B named Public Figure of the year |

It's not the first time that Mel B has been admired for her figure, but this time it's her "public figure" that is in the lime-light, as she scoops the Public Figure of the Year award at the BT sponsored "Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards" at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Monday night. Mel was praised for her work in promoting AIDS awarness.
The nature of Monday's awards could not have been more diverse, with World Leader and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela picking up the "Lifetime Achievement Award" while TV entertainer Ali G won "best TV entertainment production."
Perhaps the biggest suprise of all was to see Conservative Party leader William Hague at the event; whose party hasn't always seemed too keen on enthnic cultural influences in the UK, particuarly considering the Tory's harsh attitudes on immigration.
