Blair Witch Theme Park ride opens in Tokyo, hundreds ‘not scared in the slightest’
Talk, , 13 January 1999
I’m not joking folks, Joyopolis fun park in Osaka, Japan has creaked open the gates on a ride (well, walk) through Blair Witch country in the hope of scaring a few hundred yen out of visitors. Potentially this could be a new slant on the ol’ haunted house thing, but first reports in suggest it’s all a bit of a swizz.

Visitors are asked to keep tight hold of a rope and stroll through the forest of the BW, where three young film-makers met a mysterious end. Except it’s not really a forest, it’s a large room with bin-bags on the ceiling and dry ice. There’s corpses on the floor, wired up bodies hanging from the trees and a lot of spooky noises, but no bag of Josh bits in sight and no Bobble-hatted Heather shrieking behind the trees. So not really related to the film at all then. Things perk up when a guy in a monster suit starts banging on a gate nearby and waving his stick at you. And towards the end, one of a group of ‘mysterious’ druids starts nagging your group. So there’s a few laughs then, but no Witchie. The only real scare is apparently the price tags on the merchandise at the end – ten pounds for a candle witch a stick wrapped round it !?, AARGHHH !!!, MIKE…MIIIIKE !!!, ALL MY MONEY JUST DISAPPEARED !!!.
