The Final Fantasy franchise is the inverse Police Academy of the RPG computer game world there's loads of them, and every new one is better than the last. They used to be little clicky adventures with little pixelated people, then they became sprawling epic adventures set in a fantastical alternative universe, with animated cut scenes rivalling the best Hollywood CGI. So it’s natural they should go the whole hog and make a feature film.
The full trailer’s doing the rounds on the Net now, and unlike the previous little teaser clips (which showed nothing except how well they can render hair and skin these days ), this really looks like it wants to be a proper film. I couldn’t tell you what the film’s going to be about - I’ve got an inkling it may just be loads of flashy set-pieces linked by the barest of plots but it looks FANTASTIC! These loads of grim faced looking heroes shot against amazing landscapes, and whacking great explosions, and cameras zipping through space it’s going to be the motion sickness experience of the age! All that and James Woods and The Buscemi are doing the voices! even if this film turns out a turkey, I’m still going to love it.
