Mr Harbour-Barbour is back, and BARGAINOUS to boot!
Talk, Mr Harbour-Barbour, 19 January 1999
I run for the love of certain popular margarine spread.

This Sunday I’ve been out and about, running beneath the banner of my favourite bread moisturiser, Flora. First thing this morning I began the theme by treating myself to four rounds of self-sliced toast, all covered with Flora ‘buttery’. Then with a lunch packed, I set off for the south-east region of London to participate in an enormous jog around town.

The most wonderful thing about this ‘fun-run’ is the large supply of free drinks and snacks laid on along the route. In between the various bridges I was treated to fun-size chocolate bars, carton fruit drinks, mineral water in little cups, fresh bananas and apples, and many varieties of health snacks – nuts, tiny fruits and the like, all packed into foil wrapped packets. I ate like a king, and was so distracted by the delights upon the tables that I did not finish the run till late in the day. With the race completed I was given a large sheet of bacofoil and left to relax in the shade of Green Park where I could tuck into the contents of my lunch-box – lovely Flora and cheese sandwiches. How delightful.

Hurrah, I am now a PokeMAN

To read so much about the trends of today’s children is to be overwhelmed by change. I profess that I have made it my business to not be swayed by this fact, and am often found enjoying the children’s matinees at the local picture house, or rifling through cereal packets in the supermarket looking for toys and stickers of the latest ‘craze’. It is with much delight then, that I report to you that I have obtained a number of products from the ‘Pokemon’ craze, through bargaining and taking advantage of special offers. For starters by purchasing a ticket to the ‘Pokemon’ film at the cinema, I was given a free card with a picture of a sort of half cat/half man crossbreed called MewTwo. A young man in the queue informed me that I was lucky, and that my card could be traded for a large number of the other ones. Afterwards, as I mused my good fortune I passed by a Meat Sandwich restaurant where you were provided with a ‘Pokemon’ toy if you purchased one of their ‘burgers’. Smiling, I stepped inside – truly lighting had struck twice.

A wonderful poker hand of Yogurt advertisements appeals on a Sunday evening

A final note, as I was dozing later after the ‘fun-run’, I was snapped to attention by a parade of yogurt advertisments. The first was for the regular Fruit Corner, and I barely registered it. But then a second Yogurt advert, this time for the Crunchy Corner. And then a third for Creamy Corner, and by this point I knew I was witnessing something special. Finally I was treated to Corners both Crumble and Passion, and at their end I slumped back into my Sofa Chair and contemplated the event. I also drew plans for purchasing all five varieties the following day. Top Home
