OK, so the Internet bubble burst. Big whup! There are still plenty of reasons to be cheerful. After all, the Y2K millennium bug never hit, and Foocha! is seeing the year out with ten times as may readers as last year. Nice.
So we didn't become Internet Millionaires (I think we made about thirty quid from Amazon.co.uk (Bah!)) - well with a site this outspoken and badly spelt as Foocha!, I guess that was unlikely to happen. We did gain a certain amount of notoriety this year. With coverage in magazine from as far afield as India, Norway and the United States, and I even got my mug shot in the UK's "The Net" magazine.
Some of our writers are going on to bigger and better things - one is getting a novel published, another modelled for the Internet version of The Grinch, and yet another is going to start writing for an national (printed) magazine. These people will actually get paid for their endeavours (unlike Foocha! writers, who do it because they love it, sort of).
So what of the future of Foocha!? What do you lucky readers have to look forward to in 2001? Well, we've been busy here at Foocha! HQ, developing an brand new publishing system for the site, running on our brand new server, "Parsnip". In January, you'll see the fruits of all this labour - there'll be a new look for the site, with a cleaner design, faster page downloads, better navigation, new sections and more stories. All this and NO BANNER ADS! Yes, the new Foocha! will be a banner ad free zone. Us sell out? Never!
Later in the year we'll be introducing threaded discussions which will let you, our loyal readers, join in and add your own outspoken comments to the site automatically.
And of course, despite all this technical wizardry, we won't forget what you really want from Foocha! - the kind of self important, opinionated nonsense we spew out every week so effortlessly!
