In case you were wondering, Snoopy is alive and well and... popular in Japan. In spite of competition from, among others, Pikachoo, Doraemon and Hello Kitty, he still manages to appear on a variety of products and endorse a high-street bank. Can there be anywhere else in the world where Snoopy is still be considered cool?

No doubt, mothers the world over have often wondered what to do with their umbilical cord. Well, here in Japan, for what reason I am yet to discover, it is traditional to keep it as a souveneir in a purposely made wooden box.

Traditional Christian weddings have become big business. Although the majority of the population are much more familiar with Buddhist and Shinto rituals, it doesn't put a damper on demand for white weddings. Not quite what it is in the UK... the 'church' is most likely the fifth floor of a hotel and the 'priest', no more religious than a moonlighting TEFL teacher! Top Home
