#6 – We’re back
Talk, Martin Algesten, 12 March 2001
No too long ago my beloved and I ventured up the grim north on a romantic weekend car trip. After a ride that seemed to last an eternity we ended up almost as far north you get without crossing the final border of civilisation (according to my partner) ending up in Scotland. York in the county of Yorkshire, a town once upon a time founded by the Romans but more importantly, given its modern (non Roman) name “York” by my proud ancestors, the Vikings.

To be honest we called it “Jorvik”, which isn’t really “York” but a lot closer than the Roman “Eboracum”. And with not much of imagination we can see how the foul tongue of the Anglo-sax distorted it into its present form. York has many interesting aspects, however one that I found particularly interesting was the queue to the Viking museum. The first thing you notice about it is the amount of fair-haired people in it. The second is the easily recognised sounds of “drunken Swede in the wild world” (Swedes can’t handle foreign alcohol policies, we need our government’s intervention to restrain us from our compulsory addiction tendencies). However it makes me happy to spot my countrymen’s massive interest for the undeniable fact: We founded this country.

By glorious raping and pillaging we spread our seed all over the British soil (including Ireland), thus making the barbaric northmen the ancestors of nearly every living Brit today. I believe it is time to reclaim what is rightfully ours. And I recently got support by the glorious company “Saab”. All over London we can currently see gigantic posters stating “Designad för en Svensk vinter”, which clearly is an attempt to reintroduce Scandinavian language in the UK again. We will soon be back, and until then I give you this piece that touched me to tears:

“The Vikings are coming! God save us from the fury of the northmen!” – shouted by someone when the Vikings invaded Wessex.

“Can you imagine the sight, as shiploads of Vikings landed in England to pillage its churches and seize its land? The cries of terror and despair rang over and over again through England for centuries.”

(Can I imagine?! Â…easily!)
